In Memoriam: Zbigniew Brzezinski (1928-2017) USMEP | July 12th 2017

It is with deep sadness that the U.S. / Middle East Project marks the passing of its Senior Advisor and International Board member, Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Dr. Brzezinski was one of the earliest supporters of the U.S./Middle East Project. He was actively involved in the policy interventions of the USMEP, and was a regular participant in our meetings. He offered a regional foreign policy tour d’horizon at each of our biannual meetings. His enthusiasm for and encouragement of the work of our organization were a source of strength to our leadership over the years and to his fellow Board members.

Dr. Brzezinski had deep wells of experience to draw on, a sharp geo-strategic mind and was widely considered to be one of the most brilliant foreign policy analysts and practitioners of recent generations.

Our president emeritus and founder, Henry Siegman, who had a close relationship with him, said that Dr. Brzezinski was deeply committed to what USMEP is doing and to our approach, especially on Israel-Palestine. He cared in a very serious way both about Israel’s security and wellbeing, and about peace and the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians. His activity with the USMEP was his way of expressing his commitment and feelings on these issues.

Dr. Brzezinski will be greatly missed.
